Tips from a Therapist
With the help of our occupational therapy team, we've put together a short video of simple and effective self-care technqiues to help you stay grounded and relaxed during the Coronavirus crisis.
Practice Mindfulness
Why try it? Mindfulness can help manage anxiety and stress. A key part of mindfulness is noticing what you’re experiencing in the moment and focusing on it. If you’re struggling with your emotions or worrying about the future, mindfulness can help bring you back to the present.
What to do: Find a quiet room, engage your senses, breath slowly and, without any rush, answer these questions: what are three things you can hear? What are three things you can see? What are three things you can touch? Think about your answers slowly, one sense at a time. This will help you feel more at ease and relaxed.
Soothe your senses
If you’re feeling anxious, playing soothing music and using essential oils, candles and incense sticks can help relax you.
We’ve created different playlists to help you relax and unwind, or get a bit of a pick-me-up. We even have a playlist created by our community, for our community, comprising of all their favourite songs getting them through this time. Check out all our playlists on our Combat Stress Spotify. And don't forget to favourite them, so you can easily return to our playlists time and again.
Simple exercises
Grounding yourself
Why try it? These simple exercises can help reduce stress and worry.
What to do: You can try squeezing a stress ball, pressing your hands down on top of your head, squeezing your hands together or putting pressure on a pressure point on your body. All these movements will help you ground yourself and relieve anxiety.
