Combat Stress has won a prestigious Soldiering On Award for our unique and groundbreaking intensive treatment service.

At last night’s ceremony in London our Veterans’ Intensive Complex Trauma Organised Recovery (VICTOR) programme won the Healthcare and Rehabilitation Award. Launched by Combat Stress in 2022, VICTOR is the only intensive treatment for Complex PTSD available to veterans in the UK. It is the result of a visionary effort to address the overwhelming need for specialised PTSD care. With a team of expert clinicians driven by cutting-edge research and clinical prowess, the statistics are staggering: of those who completed treatment, 96% showed significant reductions in PTSD symptoms, and 68% no longer met the criteria for Complex PTSD.

The Soldiering On Awards recognise outstanding achievement in the Armed Forces community, engaging the MOD, military charities and corporate partners to shine a light on those who make a difference.

Our Medical Director Professor Catherine Kinane said: “The award celebrates our intensive treatment VICTOR approach for veterans, and we are grateful for this recognition of our work.

“Our intensive treatment, VICTOR model is multidisciplinary and ensures accessible effective, speedy treatment for veterans with PTSD and complex PTSD. These veterans show great courage in coming for treatment and deserve the best possible care.”

Dr Naomi Wilson, our Associate Clinical Director and Head of Psychological Therapies, said: “We’re incredibly proud of this leading-edge service for veterans with complex mental health needs, most of whom have been unwell for years, if not decades. We’re delighted to be achieving such outstanding levels of recovery. Every veteran who seeks our help deserves to be well and live well, and this is what we are delivering.”

At the ceremony hosted by BBC Radio 2 presenter Jeremy Vine, our Learning and Development team were finalists in the Education, Training and Development category. They have established a military-focused mental health education platform for more than 100 UK charities and services, delivering over 1,000 hours of specialist training to those working with veterans with mental health issues.

Our CEO Chloe Mackay said: “Congratulations to our clinical team for a much-deserved win for the VICTOR programme. It is incredible to see the impact the transformative treatment has on veterans with PTSD, giving them their lives back.

“I am also immensely proud of our Learning and Development team for being a finalist in a very closely fought category. The platform they deliver, funded by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust, is an invaluable tool for individuals and organisations supporting veterans.

“Our achievements last night highlight that Combat Stress is at the forefront of transforming mental health care for veterans.”
